(More customer reviews)Weighted bases for task lights are hard to find.This one is perfect for converting lights that typically come with a table edge clamp.I can't use a clamp, so looked all over for a base.This one is heavy enough so that it doesn't tip, and is professional looking for your desk or work bench...or it would be if it arrived without a huge dent along one side, as if it was dropped from a height onto concrete. The item came packed in two nested boxes, and then inside a larger shipping box.None of the boxes was damaged in any way, leading me to believe the item was damaged before it was packed for shipment. (The unit is essentially a large cast iron weight, similar to a plate from a weight-lifting set, that is covered by a two part, painted shell of light weight metal.)
Still, while I would have appreciated a dent-free version, this is to be used on my garage work bench, so will probably suffer worse in the first 6 months...so I didn't bother returning it.My willingness to keep it was bolstered by the following:1) a replacement would be hard to find, 2) the weight of the thing would lead to some serious shipping charges for the return, and 3) the fact that -- although Grandrich sells this item on several other websites for near $60, this one cost me $38 + shipping...a pretty good deal.
