(More customer reviews)My Labrador retriever is 15. 15 and 1/2, actually. When she was just over 11, we thought the end was near, her spinal problems were so bad. As a last resort, I decided to try a veterinarian who was trained in classical Chinese acupuncture -- specifically for animals. Within days, my dog -- a dog who could no longer climb stairs -- was climbing them again. It could only have been the acupuncture, because dogs are not subject to the placebo effect. Today, well over 3 active, happy years later, years with almost none of the gut-destroying NSAID pain-killers that helped take the lives of her litter-mates, she is about where she was when she started, and she's still getting acupuncture.
"What's this got to do with those Pomona clips?" I hear you asking. Just this. With the acupuncture comes electro-stimulation, a technique that requires the attachment of a 9V device to the acupuncture needles. Originally, these electro-stim devices shipped from China with tiny clips that look very much like the Pomonas, but for some reason today they ship with small alligator clips that weigh about 5 times as much and are difficult to squeeze and attach in a careful, compassionate manner.
So when the old device (and its leads) wore out and the new one came with clips that it clearly hurt both the vet and the dog to use, I looked all over the Internet for the original kind and found nothing at an even moderately affordable price. So I determined to manufacture them myself and found the Pomona clip Pomona SMD Grabber Test Clip, 150VRMs, Black, 1.71" OAL, 5A at an Amazon vendor -- Techni-Tool. I was so excited I forgot to order both black and red, and ended up placing 2 separate orders. The clips were so inexpensive that the shipping was maybe 3 times the cost of the clips. I contacted Techi-Tool and asked if they would combine the orders and they did -- so graciously that I am now going to give them my business at every opportunity.
And the clips! Far better than any of the their predecessors. Easy to squeeze and apply carefully, great grabbers, very light in weight, and easy to solder to the wires. My only complaint is that the wire comes out the side. While I'm sure there are design reasons for this, it makes it difficult, with a slightly stiff wire, to put them back together after soldering, and more than once I've had one fly apart, with the tiny spring heading off in one direction and the other parts going wherever the laws of physics sent them. Took a while to reassemble. But they are well made, and reassembly did no damage.
You don't need an old dog to appreciate this clip. But, believe me, if you do have an old dog, and your dog has an acupuncturist, you'll appreciate it even more. And your dog might just see it as a life-saver.
