SOG Seal Revolver Knife - Silver Blade Review

SOG Seal Revolver Knife - Silver Blade

This is an excellent knife, though a little larger than what I really need for my purposes. I use this knife for general outdoorsmanship (hiking/camping/hunting/fishing) and can't comment on its practicality as a tactical knife. The knife blade is extremely sharp and angled to hold its edge well. The saw is quite functional and can quickly cut through saplings up to 9" in diameter. The blade locks into the handle with a metal pin and feels totally secure and solid with no rattling. The ridge on the spine of the blade is perfect for pressing your thumb against when you need fine control, and a few serrations at the base of the blade function well for cutting quickly through rope (and tendons/ligaments/cartilage). The sheath is made of kydex -- a very durable hardened resin -- with a button retainer and a retractable belt/webbing clip. Both blades measure 4.75" in length, and tip to tail the knife measures 10.25". On my scale, it weighs 9.1 oz (257g) with sheath, 5.8 oz (165g) without. SOG is known for quality knives and this one is no exception.

It isn't very often that a product can create a new category; but the SEAL Revolver does just that. SOG has pioneered a fixed blade with a new twist...actually a complete revolution. The SEAL Revolver's secret is simply twice the capability for the same size and weight. The SEAL Revolver comes standard with a new look in blade shape that is not only functional, but distinctive. A survival saw serves as a backup in the handle. The blade features a forward thumb rest for increased dexterity and downward pressure. A glass-reinforced Zytel handle hides the stainless steel liners which ensure strength and quality. And as always, SOG edges are razor sharp. 4.75" blade, 10" overall

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools 1/2 Serrated Tiger Stripe TF-3 Trident Review

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools 1/2 Serrated Tiger Stripe TF-3 Trident
Average Reviews:

Man I don't know squat about knives and I bought this one because of a review I saw in the NRA's Rifleman magazine but let me tell you the Sog TF-3 (1/2 serr Tigerstripe) asst opener
is one COOL knife! Before buying though I checked out SOG's web site and was convinced to buy it, $66.00 no shipping costs.

When I got it it was just way cool right out of the box and performed just as advertised, just a flick of the wrist and that blade comes zippin' out just as smooth as can be and locks up like a mother...I guess it could be pretty practical if you were a hunter and were gonna skin some small game because it's surgical sharp and has an excellent grip, and it looks cool too.

For a quality folder I'm gonna guess this one must be amongst the better, reasonably priced, offerings on the market but who knows. What does seem to be the case is SOG is an excellent manufacturer of very good quality knives and definitely has its act together when it comes to design. So if your in the market for this type of knive you should it least check this one out for comparisons sake, but if you decide to buy it you probably will notbe disappointed.

Product Description:
Blending elements from the Bowie, Tomcat, SEAL Pup, and Flash Series knives, SOG Specialty Knives and Tools has created a new breed of folding knife: the TF-3 Trident Knife with partially-serrated blade and tiger striped coating. Designed for use by Navy SEALs, the TF-3 features SOG's grooved handle, which allows you to cut heavy cord and cable without having to open the specially designed blade. The TF-3's blade is easy to open and features Arc-Actuator technology, which helps the blade lock more strongly and release more easily.

The SOG TF-3 Trident Knife Offers:

    A tiger striped, partially-serrated blade
The ability to cut paracord, fishing line, and more without having to open the blade
A strong, reliable blade locking system
    A contoured, glass-reinforced Zytel handle

S.A.T. propels the blade open for quick, safe, one-handed access. View larger.

The TF-3 features SOG's proprietary Digi-Grip for comfortable, confident handling. View larger.

Cut cords and cables quickly and safely with dedicated Groove technology. View larger.

A reversible clip lets the knife sit securely and discreetly in your pocket. View larger.
SOG Assisted Technology Increases Speed, Safety, and Usability
Fast, safe, single-handed opening makes SOG Trident Series knives incredibly easy to handle in a wide variety of situations. When you go to unfold the TF-3's blade, SOG's patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over. High-tension coil springs propel the blade open, so you can easily access it with just one hand.
S.A.T. knives offer security and peace of mind with their locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access than other knives'. For Trident Series knives, this means the blade is held in place with a reliable piston lock that can be quickly released with a sliding button. An additional safety lock offers extra security when the blade is closed, and for easy reference, the lock switch shows red when the knife is ready to be opened.
Cryogenic Heat Treatment Guarantees a Sharp, Durable Blade
The TF-3 offers a full, 3.75-inch, AUS8 stainless steel blade that has undergone SOG's patented Cryogenic Heat Treatment process, which ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and involves slowly reducing the blade's temperature to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then slowly heating the blade to room temperature. The stress created by this process strengthens the steel on an atomic level and increases the blade's overall durability and edge retention.
In addition to having undergone the Cryogenic Heat Treatment Process, this knife is treated with a tiger-stripe coating that provides reduced reflectivity and added camouflage.
Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Comfortable Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make precise cuts if your knife doesn't fit comfortably in your hand. That's why this knife's handle is ergonomically contoured. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the handle is well-balanced and features SOG's unique Digi-Grip texturing, a feature that gives you gripping power where you need it most. Additionally, the grooved handle allows you to cut heavy cord and cable without having to open the blade.
At just 3.6 ounces, this folding knife is lightweight and easy to carry. A reversible, bayonet-mounted clip extends from the back of the handle, allowing the knife to sit low in your pocket for the most discreet carry possible. The removable clip is easily switched for right/left hand-carry.
This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TF-7 Trident Tanto, Black TiNi Review

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TF-7 Trident Tanto, Black TiNi
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The pros and cons kind of balance themselves out so I'll just say my thoughts in broken sentences.

-Handle- is strong...like Kansas! Feels weak because of the lightness--but the thing just won't scratch or crack...dropped it 40ft off a balcony on accident...no mark. Handle is a single piece of Zytel(a nylon base with glass reinforcements, DuPont invented it to be near indestructible and still be lightweight) with steel skeleton reinforcements, sturdy, but hard to clean the debris out. Best grip I've had on a folder. It's no Ka-Bar USMC, butthe grip works well for multiple holding styles (from an extension hold to an icepick).

-Blade- American Tanto style. Not the Cold Steel chisel grind. This one actually keeps an edge and the straightness makes working it on a flat stone pretty easy. They'll say things like "double grind". Lamens Terms--The body(belly) of the blade is a hollow grind(curves like a parabola to a super sharp edge on both sides)to a straight grind on the tip (Not as sharp, but just about the strongest grind). This means you get a good cutting edge and a strong tip. The tip is also a drop point, so it feels a little more natural for tip control. The major drawbacks on this blade is it's strengths. The beefy blade and reinforced spine of the tanto tip means it could withstand a beating, but it's a little thick on the profile...and heavy for the Spring.

-Overall- Great knife, still the one I have in my pocket everyday. The tanto blade isn't as lightning fast as the large-bellied thin profiled clip-tip standardized with the SOG Trident, but I'm more about durability.
And the suggested retail price of the TiNi coated Trident Tanto is about $100. I think it's $108 on the official site as of 4-11-07. So if it's under $70, it's a steal.

very high quality knife for the money.

SOG's locking mechanism is very secure and easy to use. the assisted opening is smooth and fast. after a day of messing around, i could open and close the knife with both hands as easy as scratching my behind

the blade is a good size and cuts through most things well. however, i personally would prefer a sharper blade

SOG's zytel handle grips well and sits comfortably in my medium/large paws

the WORST part of this knife for me was the extra opening for cutting string/etc . . . unless you are cutting thin twine or fishing line it doesnt work very well

the BEST part of the knife, besides the lock action, is the clip. people see it and think, how in the turkey gravy are you going to concealed carry a knife with a 5" handle? simple. it is very thin and the clip is on the very end of the handle. it slips into your pants, leaving only the attractively styled "SOG" clip hanging out. the clip for mine (black TiNi) is also a dull black, hiding it from all but the most prying knives.

the clip is also NOT somewhere in the middle of the knife, a rather ridiculous feature of some CKRT, buck, and camillus knives. why would you EVER want 1/4 of your knife sticking out for the world to see? not to mention some of the knives from those manufacturers are almost as fat as a hot dog sausage. before i owned my knife i never really knew what to look for. now that i have my SOG that tucks securely into my pocket and out of prying eyes, i get a laugh out of other not-as-well thought out knives. .SOG is a great product for the money. jsut to try out different and better things, my next knife shall be a benchmade.

This is a great every-day-carry knife, which is what I was looking for.The steel is good, it's ridiculously sharp out of the box, and so far through light duty it's held its edge very well.I clip it to my back pocket and it stays securely attached all day long.I've had several blades for EDC and they were all thicker in the handle area and after a while I would get tired of carrying them or looping my belt through the holsters. This blade is also very strong for such a small package -- I talked to SOG reps at a recent blade show in ATL and I think the lady said the downward pound limit was 300lbs (basically, how many pounds of pressure can you push straight down on the blade without it breaking out of the handle, etc). You can flick it open, so it's quickly deployed. While I wouldn't necessarily use it for self-defense, it's a good all purpose knife for EDC.
