(More customer reviews)This could be a really good deal if you need only a tight beam, and don't care what it looks like, but need to use it for long periods.

The square beam would be a little better if the LED was centered.It's actually a square beam plus a soft roundish flood (but still a very narrow and weak flood).

It uses an internal refractor instead of a reflector.Both a reflector (standard chrome flashlight dish) and an internal refractor catch side-emitted light for the LED and aim it forward.With a reflector, the light already going forward through the front of the flashlight just spills out and serves as the "flood" part of the beam.An internal refractor also catches this forward-emitted light, so all light is focused forward and very little light creates a flood area.This can be a benefit because you now get a spot beam as bright as a more powerful flashlight, saving battery power, as long as you don't need a wider flood beam.

There are different kinds of internal refractors, and some produce a rounder beam than others.The one in this flashlight projects a nearly perfect image of the LED, which means a square beam.Note that "internal refractors" are not the same as having a slim magnifying lens placed in front of the LED, as some flashlights do.Those produce a perfectly round beam, but tend to waste a lot of light which is emitted sideways and dies inside the flashlight.

(More customer reviews)This flashlight is well designed and produces virtually no heat, so you could carefully wear it behind the ear the way engineers hold pencils. Sometimes useful to free both hands.

It's small so you can put it in your bag or purse and forget about it - until you need it. The light is bright enough to be useful.

It can be helpful for inspecting small components, for use in power cuts, and for an increased sense of security.

After testing it, I bought two more. Its slick design makes for a nice gift.

Streamlight 61100 Clipmate Flashlight, Three White LEDs, Yellow Review

(More customer reviews)This Streamlight Clipmate is the best AAA flashlight I've ever had my hands on.

The main reason I bought it was because I wanted/needed a small flashlight, but what really sold me was the fact that it uses regular ol AAA batteries, not button/watch batteries like most small flashlights use. I have AAAs laying around all the time so not having to make sure I have special batteries for it is a huge plus.

The other nice feature is that it's waterproof. Just like the other Streamlight flashlights I've bought, it is extremely well sealed up and not even the smallest amount of moisture or dirt can find it's way into the flashlight.

Brightness level is almost on par with the Streamlight 4AA 7-LED flashlight I purchased a few years back, which is crazy bright.

The clip/ball joint operates very smoothly and holds the flashlight firmly in position and will not budge unless you want it to. Very well designed.

And finally the included elastic strap headband makes this Clipmate even more versatile. I can't remember how many times I've needed a headband light when I'm working on something, such as fixing duct work in the crawl-space or working on the car. A fantastic addition.

For as bright as this is, the included headband, the strong ball joint/clip, and the fact that it uses AAA batteries makes this probably your best choice for a small (3-1/2" long x 1" thick) flashlight.

Pros:
Bright! Almost as bright as my other 7 LED flashlight.
Uses three AAA batteries, not button/watch batteries.
Strong clip will not fail.
Very well constructed, I would almost go as far as saying it's close to bombproof.
Long battery life.

Cons:
No instructions showing how it properly clips onto the elastic headband, still only took about a minute to figure it out.

(More customer reviews)Once in a while you'll encounter a product that's so far out front that the others should pick up their marbles and go home. Mag-Lites are the standard bearer in the flashlight category. (Were it not for the picture,you would hardly know from the product description up there that we'retalking about a 4-cell flashlight.)
The primary job of a flashlight is,not surprisingly, to create light. Mag gets more light out of theirflashlights than anybody. Maybe it's the bulb, or the reflector. But NOflashlight will come close to putting out as much light as a Mag.
Anotherquality we hope to find in any product is functionality -- does it workevery time, or mainly when you don't need it? I can't recall more than atime or two that a Mag failed to come on. I've dropped them from heightsthat would have destroyed anything less and they still worked.
I have anold black AA-size Mini-Mag here that spent about a decade in the cockpitsof airplanes -- the poorest lighted places this side of the Black Forest --so it got a world of use. The place on the end cap for attaching a lanyardor hanging ring is worn completely through. But the little guy still workslike a charm.
The switch on this D-cell model is under live rubber; ithas a solid click on and off. The beam is adjustible to a sharp spot.You'll probably want to set it there and leave it alone.
I am certainthat batteries last longer in a Mag-lite. The only explanation for thiswould seem to be that a tiny bit of battery drain occurs on some others.Before I became 100% converted to Mags I would too often pick up aflashlight that was full of dead batteries. I can go for years withoutchanging the batteries in a Mag-lite.
All Mags are rugged. The barrelsare sturdy aluminum extrusions -- not plastic or stamped metal. Both endcaps have O rings to keep the case waterproof. And who else would be sothoughtful as to put an extra bulb in the bottom endcap?
A reviewer belowhad a legitimate gripe about tubular things not staying put on anything buta level surface. Of course, that has been a complaint for years about pensand all kinds of tubular devices. This can be cured for the Mag-Lite with avery small bungee cord. Tie several knots in it until it is shortenedenough to fit tight around the barrel. The knots will keep the light fromrolling around.
I like the new hot red Mag-Lites. Anybody with any senseat all would know a pretty red flashlight would throw more light than ablack one. It just stands to reason.

(More customer reviews)I work nights and this light is a great "hands-free" flashlight when working with equipment in the dark.Between work and off time, I would swap it to a different hat.About 2 weeks after I bought it, one of the clip legs broke.I contacted the company and, even thought there is a warrenty on the packaging, they said the clip was not covered.Their attitude was "too bad, so sad".So I tried a variety of "super glue" types of adheasives and none were strong enough to keep it from rebreaking.Now I am left with a small, awkward, hand-held flashlight. For the same money, I could have bought a good, dependable Mini Maglite that will last for years.

(More customer reviews)I am completely sold out to lantern/flashlights as half the time when I need a light I need to use both hands with the light acting as a lantern and resting on a table top etc. At the same time I am usually indoors and not needing a lot of light. This is as compact as you can get in this style and yet the 26 lumens is quite bright enough for what I need, namely lighting a room or a tent in India when the power fails! The size is a great improvement over the old Energizer that I have had for years; that lamp was way too big and with much less light because of the old incandescent bulb. The image online looked like the construction might be subpar but that is not the case. This thing is solid in every respect, very well built. The lanyard and carabiner that come with it will be very handy for hanging it overhead and the "lever" off/on switch on the end of it will definitely not accidentally turn on in your bag while you are traveling. The "lever"is like a pie-slice tapering to a hinge in the middle of the end of the lamp. You rotate it about 40 degrees for off/on and it is flush with the end of the light, sort of like it is in the pie pan with the rest of the pie! Very hard for anything to accidentally hit it and it is a bit stiff to turn. The trade-off is not having to worry about pulling out your light and finding the battery dead.
Very well designed and manufactured.

Additionally if you work long nights like I do, this is a great tool to check on your patients without turning on the lights unnecessarily.I use this to check foley and chest tube output in the dark.
